News from .riess' Development for

SAP PLM Pro/E Integration

December 7, 2011:

Enhanced Display Options in SAP’s CAD Desktop

Within the CAD Desktop, the ‘Display Options’ drop-down menu is now unified in both CAD View and SAP View. The menu also contains new options for displaying suppressed and inactive Pro/E components.

Insufficient Access Rights Are Now Recognized Early
A user with insufficient access rights is now prompted with a message when attempting to log in to CAD Desktop, and is able to cancel the log-in process. Previously, users had to complete log-in process before finding that access rights were unavailable.
Improved Working Directory Cleansing
The SAP PLM integration now provides a function that will delete files from the working directory and clear the computer RAM. If a user has loaded a Pro/E model from SAP (or any other source) and she/he wants to quickly remove the entire model with all subassemblies from the working directory, a dialog box will show the affected files and provide several options to select or exclude files from the cleansing process. The dialog box contains additional information like DIR number, description, file name and local path to assist the user in selecting the proper action.

Use an Existing DIR as a Template for a New DIR
The Pro/E Integration can now be configured to enable a process which allows information from one DIR to be used as template or default value for a new DIR. This feature helps to avoid redundant user entries during common practices. For example, the description of a 3D model can be transferred to the corresponding drawing.
Redesigned Open Dialog
The Open Dialog, which appears by using the Open function in the Pro/E Integration, has been completely redesigned. Additional information, such as the description of the SAP DIR and the assigned Material Master number, can now be displayed beside the file name. Furthermore, a filter can be applied to each column to narrow the results. This makes finding the files that you need both faster and easier.

Support of Parasolid (*.x_t) as a 3D Exchange Format
Now it is possible during check-in to create not only JPEGs, TIFs, PDFs and other neutral file formats, but also Parasolid files with the ‘x_t’ file extension.
Using of System Variables for Synchronization
It is now possible to configure the Pro/E integration in a way that the synchronization process between Pro/E and SAP utilizes system variables like PRO_MP…, as well as variables of the system OS.
Additional Functionality in the Pro/E Model Browser
The user can now open the SAP-View of a specific part or assembly directly from the Pro/E model browser. This gives the user direct access to all document management related information with a simple right mouse click.
